Mission of Austin Street Center: Founded in 1983, Austin Street Center provides emergency shelter and meets the basic need of the most vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in Dallas.

Position Purpose

This PRN Staff position fills in on call as needed for the Receptionist Desk. Since 1983, Austin Street Center has specialized in caring for the most vulnerable homeless men and women in Dallas. Beyond meeting basic needs, Austin Street is committed to individualized care for each person who comes to us for help. Our goal is that every homeless person who comes to Austin Street Center finds hope, support, and the resources they need to transition out of homelessness.

 

 

Responsibilities (include but not limited to)

  • Interact with visitors, staff, and clients
  • Welcome on-site visitors, determines nature of business and announces visitors to appropriate personnel
  • Check in volunteers utilizing Volunteer Management System
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and provide appropriate assistance to callers
  • Retrieve messages from voice mail and forward to appropriate personnel
  • Perform clerical support tasks
  • Maintain supplies in reception area, copy room, and staff lounge
  • Manages distribution of staff mail
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Skills/Requirements

  • Minimum of two years’ experience preferred
  • Must be punctual and arrive to work on time
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills (including professional phone etiquette)
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Independently manages time with little supervision and follows established policies and procedures
  • Support and demonstrate organization’s core values of kindness, trustworthiness, determination and empowerment
  • Basic understanding of administrative and clerical procedures and systems
  • Operate phone and copier
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software
  • High School diploma or GED certificate
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred
