In response to elevated cases of COVID-19 in Dallas County, Austin Street Center opted to conduct shelter-wide testing in early December. There was no immediate concern motivating this action other than the general rise in Dallas cases. Six people tested positive.
Those who test positive are immediately sent to recover at a separate isolation facility (clients) or at their home (staff). We immediately begin contact tracing, shelter sanitization, and quarantine procedures for those who may have been in contact with someone who tested positive. Those who test positive are not allowed back into the shelter until they have produced two negative test results.
