Austin Street Center
for Community Engagement
In June 2022, Austin Street opened The Austin Street Center for Community Engagement. The new 60,000 square-feet, 24/7, client-focused homeless shelter and day service center expands much needed services for the men and women of Dallas in need. This new facility is more than double the size of our former shelter and includes separate, vast accommodations for men and women, classrooms, a dining and engagement space, a larger computer lab, and dedicated rooms for clients to receive medical services. The facility also grants us the ability to welcome many more daily volunteers and service groups.

Our Approach To Ending Homelessness
Austin Street Center works tirelessly to bring an end to homelessness in Dallas, one person at a time. In serving our homeless neighbors, we provide necessities such as a safe shelter, meals, showers and clothing. Austin Street’s ultimate goal is to Help Them Home with services including mental and physical health care, substance use recovery support, employment assistance and access to permanent housing.
The current facility has had no break in operations for 28 years and includes several issues consisting of minimal day services; shared restrooms and shower spaces; lacks dining, facility engagement center, full service commercial kitchen, educational and clinical spaces; failing HVAC systems, plumbing and sewer systems; and is at capacity for both clients and staff.
