Position Purpose

When people are seeking emergency shelter, they are at the lowest point of their lives, hungry, tired, and looking for relief.  The Case Aide is the first service-oriented staff that people seeking our shelter services will engage, and we want that experience to be warm, compassionate, and effective.  The case aide team facilitates the intake process for dozens of people every week, ensuring that all of our shelter beds are filled every day and that we are able to serve the maximum number of people possible who are seeking our services.

 

We are looking for a detail-oriented people person who can draft accurate assessments, file correct paperwork in a timely manner, and help vulnerable people through the process to find shelter.  Are you kind, smart, and dedicated person who wants to make a difference with some of our most vulnerable neighbors?  This position may be for you!

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Shelter Intake: conduct intake lottery daily and complete full and thorough intake assessments
  • Service Referral: complete triage assessments and connect incoming neighbors to services in the shelter
  • Data Entry and Quality Management: document all services in the local Homeless Management Information System with minimal missing data

 

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to lift 25-40 pounds. Tasks may involve bending, lifting, and carrying heavy items.
  • Excellent customer service skills, especially when working with people with communication challenges and impairments
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to innovate and embrace best practices in shelter and housing services delivery
  • Ability to adapt to change
  • Ability to communicate clearly with outside providers and partners, especially health care providers

Additional Experience a Plus:

  • Previous work or volunteer experience in homeless services
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • U.S. Military service
