Case Aide

For almost 40 years, Austin Street Center has specialized in caring for the most vulnerable homeless men and women in Dallas. Beyond meeting basic needs, Austin Street is committed to individualized care for each person who comes to us for help. Our goal is that every homeless person who comes to Austin Street Center finds hope, support, and the resources they need to transition out of homelessness.

 

 

Your role will support the mission thorough the following actions:

 

  • Support organization with a mindset of kindness, trustworthiness, determination, and empowerment for those that we serve
  • Be aware of Client(s) particular circumstances (e.g., health concerns, peak stress time, emotional difficulties, problems, etc.)
  • At times require you to be resourceful and have the ability to make decisions in a timely efficient manner using the training and guidance you have been given.

  • Ability to multitask, handle on-site crisis and adapt to the changing needs of the clients.
  • Acceptance of agency philosophies of providing hope, support and the resources needed to transition out of homelessness.
  • Able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients, staff, and community contacts and able to effectively address and resolve conflict as needed
  • Ability to work respectfully with diverse teams, build consensus, and motivate change

 

 

Position Purpose

Case Aides provide critical documentation input to help facilitate support and assistance for our programs and services. Case Aides ensure the highest overall efficiency and effectiveness with a focus on moving Clients forward in putting an end to their homelessness. We are looking for computer-savvy, energetic people with out-of-this-world customer service skills, people who are the ultimate team players and want to make a real difference, every day. This position is perfect for someone wanting to work on a team serving our homeless neighbors. Austin Street Center is a 24 hour a day facility 7 days a week. You may be called to work holidays, extended hours and perhaps some weekends under special circumstances.

 

 

Your role will support the mission through the following actions:

 

Case Aide Responsibility

  • Oversee the completion of client intake and re-enrollments. Begin homeless history documentation. Track exit requirements from the shelter when clients leave, and document reasons if after auto-exit and before case management is assigned. Ensure each client has a bed night or research to find out why and correct.
  • Providing General Services such as Letters of Residency and TB due date notifications.
  • Facilitate the sorting and distribution of both current and past client mail.
  • Complete services screening and refer clients to appropriate services.
  • Ensure required intake documentation are uploaded into the shared drive
  • Responsible for accurately completing the paperwork of the intake process.
  • Responsible for data entry of Enrollment and exit tracking and recording.
  • Act as a liaison to outside agencies.
  • Maintain a safe and healing environment for all clients and staff.
  • Provide high level overall coverage to rules/requirements to promote smooth intake and acclamation of clients for success at Austin Street.
  • Treat all clients with the utmost respect and dignity, displaying excellent customer service skills.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services in compliance with agency guidelines & Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS) within one business day of service provision.
  • Maintain complete commitment to quality in documentation and data entry to ensure minimum data loss and maximum accuracy

 

 

Skills/Requirements

  • Minimum High school diploma or GED, preferably some coursework completed in human services or a related field (social work, sociology, psychology, etc.)
  • Basic computer skills supporting Microsoft suite of products.
  • Bilingual – Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to communicate proactively and effectively, both orally and in written communication.
  • Experience with and sensitivity to varying cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds, values, and attitudes.
  • Ability to remain positive, motivated, and kind toward a demanding clientele.
  • Ability to problem solve and provide resolution to matters that arise.
