Position Purpose

The Diversion Program is designed to assist people seeking shelter with locating resources for shelter, housing, or treatment that they have at hand and connecting to those resources immediately in order to prevent their entrance to the shelter and the homeless response system.  Additionally, the program provides short-term rental assistance to persons with significant income resources in order to re-house them quickly.

The Case Manager II will assess shelter seekers to determine their at-hand resources and assist assigned persons to locate and move into effective shelter, housing, and treatment resources as quickly as possible.

The Case Manager III will perform the same tasks as the Case Manager II, but will also be expected to manage Flex Fund processing, provide training, and perform duties of the supervisor in their absence.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Diversion Pre-Screening: assess shelter seekers in our Welcome Center to determine what resources they can use to move out of homelessness as quickly as possible
  • Complete and Execute Diversion Plans: help diversion clients to access resources and end their homelessness before it really starts
  • Data Entry and Quality Management: document all services in the local Homeless Management Information System, including case notes and client enrollment and exit information with minimal missing data.

 

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in human services
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written communication
  • Demonstrates experience with and sensitivity to varying cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds, values, and attitudes
  • Intermediate to advanced familiarity with digital communication, including cloud-based software, e-mail, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds on a regular basis
  • Able to work outside in adverse weather conditions when needed
  • Able to work in a noisy environment with a large group of people

Additional Experience a Plus:

  • Lived experience in homelessness, recovery, or deep poverty valued
  • Three or more years of successful work or volunteer experience in homeless services
  • Master’s Degree in human services field, especially in social work
  • Licensure in a human services discipline (LCDC, LBSW, or LMSW)
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Training in Housing First, Motivational Interviewing, the Transtheoretical Model of Change, Harm Reduction, and/or Trauma-Informed Care
  • U.S. Military service
