Position Purpose

The Shelter Services Coordinator serves as the central point of contact for phone calls, client inquiries, and the overall operations at Sisterhood and the Main Shelter. This position provides essential services, support, and guidance to clients, ensuring a safe and organized environment. The coordinator will manage daily operations, oversee cleanliness, and ensure that shelter services are provided efficiently and with a positive approach. Additionally, the role includes maintaining inventory, managing client sign-up lists, and supporting both staff and clients to promote a healing and respectful environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Main Shelter:

    • Act as the primary hub for all phone calls and client inquiries, providing information about shelter services and directing calls to the appropriate areas as
    • Ensure all phone messages are responded to within the same shift they are
    • Works with Neighbor volunteers to ensure 400 loads of laundry get completed weekly.

Sisterhood:

  • Facilitate daily operations of Sisterhood, including laundry, hygiene items, chores, and clothing vouchers, ensuring smooth and efficient service delivery.
  • Ensure that Sisterhood Security Desk is well-stocked at the beginning and end of each shift, including office supplies, OTC medications, and basic hygiene items.
  • Perform bed checks for excess baggage/food and manage client personal property to meet shelter bag/weight requirements.

Inventory & Reporting:

  • Fulfill client request slips daily utilizing the ASC Inventory
  • Distribute items from processing bins into stock bins and ensure that all bins are correctly
  • Refill bins from backstock as needed and notify appropriate staff when stock items are low.

 

  • Run weekly reports from the ASC Inventory system and notify appropriate staff of low inventory items.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of Entry/Exit reports each day (Daily Activity Report).
  • Record any warnings/restrictions or incidents both on paper and in the HMIS system.

Support Roles:

  • Provide support to Case Managers as
  • Assist in the clothing room and laundry services as
  • Ensure that mop buckets, showers, and laundry services run smoothly and on
  • Provide helpful information and direction to clients, treating all individuals with respect and dignity.

Environment Maintenance:

  • Maintain a safe and healing environment for all clients and staff, promoting a positive and respectful atmosphere.
  • Provide high-level oversight of rules and requirements to ensure smooth intake and acclimation of new clients.

Shift Coordination:

  • Check in with overnight staff for a smooth handoff during shift changes.
  • Ensure that all shelter operations and client services are completed with positive reinforcement and adherence to shelter guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum High school diploma or GED, preferably some coursework completed in human services or a related field (social work, sociology, psychology, etc.)
  • Basic computer skills supporting Microsoft suite of
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Ability to communicate proactively and effectively, both orally and in written communication
  • Experience with and sensitivity to varying cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds, values, and attitudes
  • Ability to remain positive, motivated, and kind toward a demanding clientele
