PRN Guest Services Staff

Position Purpose
The PRN Guest Services Staff at Austin Street Center provides essential support across 1st Shift (6:00 AM – 2:00 PM), 2nd Shift (2:00 PM – 10:00 PM), and 3rd Shift (10:00 PM – 7:00 AM). Staff ensure that the facility and guest-facing areas operate efficiently, safely, and in a welcoming manner. This role is responsible for accurate documentation, effective communication, and consistently upholding Austin Street Center’s core values: Determination, Empowerment, Kindness, and Trustworthiness.

This position requires flexibility and adaptability, as staff may be scheduled for any shift based on operational needs. Reliability and responsiveness are essential to maintain continuity of care and support in a fast-paced shelter environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Prepare facility and guest areas for safe, clean, and organized operations for each assigned shift.
• Review shift-specific reports, overnight notes, and address any unresolved issues promptly.
• Maintain professional phone coverage, respond efficiently to incoming calls, and route messages appropriately.
• Document client walk-outs, hospital transports, move-ins, and emergency incidents accurately in the Daily Log.
• Restock client and office supplies, including cleaning materials, towels, and other essential items.
• Support guests as needed while balancing high-priority operational responsibilities.
• Coordinate with security staff to supervise guests during facility tasks or as necessary for safety.
• Complete thorough shift handoffs to the next scheduled team member to ensure continuity across shifts.
• Uphold Austin Street Center’s core values in all interactions with guests, volunteers, and staff.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in social services preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and empowering atmosphere for all.
• Physical ability to lift 25–50 lbs and perform tasks involving standing, walking, and bending.

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience in guest services, social services, or shelter operations.
• Comfort and skill in working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Experience with documentation and administrative systems.

PRN / On-Call Schedule

• Coverage is required for 1st Shift (6:00 AM – 2:00 PM), 2nd Shift (2:00 PM – 10:00 PM), and 3rd Shift (10:00 PM – 7:00 AM) on an as-needed basis.
• Flexibility and adaptability across shifts are essential to meet operational demands.
