Position Purpose

The Volunteer Coordinator assists with volunteer functions at Austin Street Center. This position involves volunteer outreach, project coordination, calendar management, relationship building, presentations, and assessment for volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager in close coordination with Shelter Services and Advancement teams to enhance the experience of volunteers at Austin Center.

 

  • Provide customer service to potential and current volunteers and providing a good experience for volunteers on the Austin Street campus
  • Conduct and arrange volunteer orientation, training, and scheduling under the supervision of the Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager
  • Work within volunteer management platform
  • Serve as an Austin Street liaison for speaking engagements, presentations, volunteer recruitment fairs and tours
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with Austin Street staff to ensure volunteers are staffed in support various areas of operations & programing
  • Act as a point of contact for volunteer inquiries and communication, regularly communicating with volunteers via email and phone
  • Work with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote cooperation and interest
  • Help to coordinate volunteer recognition programs and special events
  • Solicit and collect in-kind donations
  • Assist with Inclement Weather Shelter coordination as needed
  • Assist with any other duties as assigned

 

Skills / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience
  • 2+ years experience preferred
  • Excellent organization and operational skills
  • Keen attention to detail and strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service to individuals and groups
  • Strong interpersonal skills: to deal with a diverse range of people
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written
  • Demonstrates adaptability to performing a variety of duties, occasionally changing from one task to another of a different nature with minimal loss of efficiency or composure
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

  • Ability to work respectfully with diverse teams, build consensus, and motivate change
