Austin Street Center conducts proactive COVID-19 testing

September 30, 2020

Earlier this month, three clients were tested and diagnosed with COVID-19 at off-site facilities. In response, Austin Street decided to make COVID-19 testing available to all staff and clients in the shelter. Three people tested positive. One of those was later cleared.

Those who tested positive were immediately sent to recover at a separate isolation facility (clients) or at their home (staff). We immediately begin contact tracing, shelter sanitization, and quarantine procedures for those who may have been in contact with someone who tested positive. Those who test positive are not allowed back into the shelter until they have produced two negative test results.
