Sarah, a single mother of 3, once had a home and lost it all within 2 months. She was the victim of a hit and run accident and, like many others, wasn’t prepared for a crisis. Without a car, she couldn’t get to work, lost her job, wasn’t able to keep up with bills, and eventually couldn’t afford her home. Sarah then turned to drugs stating “I had given up.”
After losing her home, Sarah found herself living in a hotel, then a van, and eventually checked into rehab where she learned about Austin Street’s Sisterhood Program with hopes of piecing her life back together. When accepted into the Sisterhood program in July 2024, Sarah underwent counseling that taught her how to cope with problems and deal with others. She also began a paralegal program, was studying to get her bachelor’s degree, and had a few jobs!
While sharing her story, Sarah wanted others to know that anybody could be homeless. “There are many people here that had everything at one point.” We’re happy to announce that as of April 2025, Sarah completed the Sisterhood Program! She left with a large amount of savings and was able to purchase a car, and an RV with a piece of land to go along with it. We’re so proud and hope Sarah is thriving in her new chapter!
