Emmanuel moved to Dallas from Canada on a sponsored visa for an Information Systems job. He had a steady income and an apartment but was unexpectedly laid off a few months in. He luckily found a new position but then faced a second layoff which left him unable to pay rent. He then turned to a local church who recommended Austin Street.
Emmanuel came to our shelter in March 2024 and shared this was “…like a second home.” He was grateful for the free food, computer lab, and Connector bus, which he used often to visit the library. In Fall 2024, Emmanuel landed a new job as a shipping agent and by staying at our shelter, he saved money and was paying off his debts. He was trying to find a job in his field, and shared that if he couldn’t find one, he would return to Canada.
As of earlier this month, Emmanuel did move back to Canada and Austin Street wishes him all the happiness and positivity in his new chapter!
